When Duffy released her first album, Rockferry, people fell in love with her. It’s not often new vocalists blow you away with their soultry, bluesy voices.
I don’t know what happened in the production of her second album, Endlessley, but something went very wrong. Duffy swapped her buttery voice for that of Lamp Chop from Lamb Chop’s Play-Along and apparently let the star-machine give her a makeover because she know resembles Pamela Anderson.
It sounds like shes trying to be cute and sexy. In her defense, this whiny vibrato she’s adopted was present on her first album, but she used it VERY sparingly.
I want to find the potential in the tracks or at least some of them but I can’t listen to more than 30 seconds of each song without her ridiculous, voice change driving me mad. Oh dear merciful being of good things…what on earth were you thinking taking an extended coffee break when Duffy was creating this album.
Stream: Duffy “Hard For The Heart”
Okay I’ll stop hating. Endlessley isn’t all bad. Whiny vibrato on “Well Well Well” aside, the track itself isn’t too bad. It has a good beat. As does “My Boy”. Thankfuly on “Endlessely” and “Hard For The Heart”, we do hear a bit of her old voice which is incredibly refreshing.
The direction taken for this album was truly a shame given that Duffy has a beautiful voice at her disposal. I won’t write her off if only because I think she has a huge amount of potential: Rockferry was a sign of how great she could be. On that note, skip this album and listen to her first.

I have been enjoying Adele and Duffy a lot recently.
I think this song and Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” are one of my favorites of the season.
